JAMES HETFIELD'S
"THE GRINCH"
The "GRINCH" first came to us for an Air Bag repair.
Poor installation (by an unnamed shop) caused a rear shockwave to rub a hole in
itself. The car has a Chevelle rear steer clip. It had no sway bars, the front
shocks were blown-out due to being hit by the A-arms, and the car would not
align. We lengthened the upper arms 3/8", re-fit new shocks and mounts. Added
sway bars and a 4 corner alignment. The car was now a great driver, and on it's
way it went.
A short time later James called us back with some
concerns. The car drives so well, that he drives it much more now, and tends to
drive it faster, now that it handles so ell. The problem is, summer is coming
and it's going to get hot. Could we add in A/C and make it "fit" the car. With no
room under the dash due to stereo equipment , we used a Vintage Air streemline
unit. The big trick was to make it look like a factory '52 olds unit, 96 parts
cut on the Flowjet, 3/16 spacers and some tig welding.
